Plastics & Molding

Tooling buys the relationship. Resin decides whether it was worth it.

Whoever owns the tool owns the relationship; that is well understood in this business. What many owners have never pressed on is the most consequential and least negotiated term in the contract: who paid for that tool, and what it means when a customer can move it and take years of revenue in a single phone call.

The other half is resin, a commodity with real volatility. Whether the contract passes that through decides whether a good year survives a bad quarter, and plenty of molders are absorbing swings their agreements never let them recover. Long programs are a genuine strength, right up until concentration turns them into the risk that caps the valuation.

What makes it hard

  • Tooling ownership, the most consequential term, usually the least negotiated
  • Resin volatility absorbed rather than passed through by contract
  • Long programs that become concentration risk at sale
  • Press capacity and changeover time capping throughput
  • Scrap and cycle time differences that quietly decide program margin

How we partner

We get into the contract economics most owners never renegotiate: tooling ownership, resin pass-through, and the terms that decide whether a program is an asset or an exposure. Where pass-through is being given away or tooling risk carried, we help fix it at the next renewal rather than absorb it.

On concentration, the answer follows the goal. If growth is the aim, acquisition is often the cleanest route to new customers and capacity, and we run that with you. If a sale is the aim, we spend the runway de-risking the key programs so the discount comes off. We work alongside you and, where it fits, our fee follows the result.

Who this is for

Molders whose largest programs run on tooling a customer owns.

Owners absorbing resin moves their contracts do not let them pass through.
